After being in a tough negotiation with Zaffar, we finally set off to KLCC to look for his toys. Wifey and me finally realised that it's been almost a year that we have been in KLCC, everything seems different and all the shops have been relocated here and there. Toys r Us is not at the LG floor anymore but the 2nd floor.
As you can see wifey have a Toys r US plastic bag on her and obviously our favourite almond pretzel from Aunty Ann's. We got there in time before the big holiday crowd came. Zaffar also enjoyed riding his Bob the builder bulldozer. When asked where is he driving off to...he said "Pasar" which means market. Hahaha.
Just before leaving, Zaffar asked for french fries and we were too tired to go up to McDonalds and was trying to see if A&W is still there and eventually it's not. It's been replaced by a well know kuih muih shop selling overpriced kuih but good kuih though.

Deepavali breakfast
First all Happy Deepavali to all my Hindu friends and readers and thank you for the government for making this day a public holiday thus enabling me and the family to take some time off, rest and enjoy a day without thinking about rushing to work, rushing to tumble tots or having endless meetings. Regardless how much I love working everyone deserves some time off.
So basically wifey, Zaffar and myself sets out right in the morning to our favourite breakfast and food district which is Keramat and Melawati. I guess the district have exactly that suits our craving and interest. With the connected high between Bukit Jelutong and MRR2 through PLUS highway and DUKE highway our journey took us less than 30 minutes. Our pick for this morning is Nasi Lemak and Roti Jala down in Melawati. Obviously the place was already packed by the time we arrived and after ordering all that we craved Zaffar started with his usual merengek asking for Roti canai which obviously the only food that was not available at the food stall we were at...as always. After much patience tested with endless crying and negotiation, he finally wanted to buy his favourity toy which is Thomas and friends. Even after completing the negotation, he still could not wait and urged us to leave straight away and even prohibited us to finish our drinks. Just a recommendation to everyone, the food in Melawati is fabolous, they serve roti jala, nasi lemak, soto, mee kari, mee rebus, mee soup, nasi ayam and many more.

Monkey Business
Once upon a time... in a village, a man appeared and announced to the villagers that he would buy monkeys for $10 each.
The villagers, seeing that there were many monkeys around, went out to the forest and started catching them.
The man bought thousands at $10 and, as supply started to diminish, the villagers stopped their effort. He further announced that he would now buy at $20 for a monkey. This renewed the efforts of the villagers and they started catching monkeys again.
Soon the supply diminished even further and people started going back to their farms. The offer increased to $25 each, and the supply of monkeys became so small that it was an effort to even find a monkey, let alone catch it!
The man now announced that he would buy monkeys at $50! However, since he had to go to the city on some business, his assistant would now buy on behalf of him.
In the absence of the man, the assistant told the villagers. "Look at all these monkeys in the big cage that the man has collected. I will sell them to you at $35, and when the man returns from the city, you can sell them to him for $50 each."
The villagers rounded up all their savings and bought all the monkeys.
They never saw the man nor his assistant again, only monkeys everywhere!
Now you have a better understanding of how the stock market works

Peak times
Sometimes it's funny how I can never anticipate my daily schedule. At times when I think i'll be free on that day, it just ends up work, calls, emails starts to pour in. The project I'm in right now, is expected to close of one of the main activities by end of today and I'm quite excited to push for the team to finish on time. The sense of achievement means so much more than just meeting a goal. Meeting a goal is merely a direction but the journey defines the satisfaction and the completeness of ones overall objective.
For the past weeks, I've been pondering on the words by Steve Jobs and a lot more words of wisdom that I've read in many articles. For me those words doesn't really reflect the true aspiration that is applicable for everyone. Malaysian are not free-spirited and we can't start a company and sell to the population of Malaysia and become rich. We have limited market for expansion, narrow mind on exploration new and innovative ideas. Bottom line is that we can't really do what we love but rather do something that we have to do to survive. It's been expected 2012 will be tough year for the economy and I'm hoping that I can be well prepared for this. Not doing the things I love is fine as long as that I have enough food to eat...

Should You Stay Late or Go Home?
An article I found written by Ron Ashkenas
Let me start this post with a confession: I'm usually the last person to leave my office. I get in around 8:00am or earlier and often don't get home until after 7:00pm. But I'm not complaining. I love my work (and have an understanding family). But since there's always more to do than there is time to do it, I've gotten into the pattern of expanding my workday.
I'm not the only one. In fact, a recent study suggests that nearly two-thirds of U.S. companies report that their employees have worked more hours over the past three years. It's likely that there are similar percentages in other countries.
This growing trend is predicted to continue. An unintended consequence of our global, connected world is that customers, clients, partners, and colleagues expect immediate responses to their demands. At the same time, jobs are in short supply in many fields, so nobody wants to disappoint. As a result, more employees are putting in longer hours, and many regularly face the dilemma of whether to stay late and finish a critical task or put it aside until the next day.
But once you begin expanding your work hours on a regular basis, working "normal" hours starts to look like slacking off. In other words, if you establish a pattern of staying late, your extended hours become the new normal.
Given my own inclination to work late, I'm probably the last person who should give advice on this subject. However, if you don't enjoy working late (like me), doing so can have serious consequences. A large study last year of 6000 British civil servants showed that those who regularly worked over ten hours per day were 60% more likely to suffer from heart disease. And if you don't have an understanding partner, being away can put a strain on the relationship.
So what can you do to avoid the stay-late work pattern or at least avoid its negative consequences? Here are a few thoughts to help you prioritize:
Reflect on your goals — both professional and personal. Think through the aspirations you have for your career and your life. What do you want to achieve? What are the priorities? What gives you fulfillment? It's remarkable how many people wander through their careers without a sense of "true north" to guide their decisions. As a result they lack criteria for determining whether to invest more time in work, and at some point may wake up and realize that the accumulation of small choices has taken them to a destination that they did not intend.
Talk about it at home. Discuss your goals and priorities with the people closest to you — your spouse, partner, friends, or children (if appropriate). Find out the extent to which their expectations match yours.Without this dialogue you run the risk of constantly disappointing each other.
Open up a dialogue at work. Make it clear to your boss and your colleagues that you are indeed willing to stay late and pitch in if there are legitimate reasons (a client deadline, a customer crisis, a seasonal overload, etc.). But also emphasize that this should be the exception, and not the rule. In fact, if there are constant crises and deadline dramas, you might want to talk with your team about how to redesign the work process so that you're not held captive to it.
And don't stay late just because you want to be perceived as a hard worker. Mostly everyone sees through that ploy. Only stay late if you enjoy what you're doing (as I do) or if there is a really legitimate work requirement. Remember that if you don't take conscious control of your own work hours, the work hours can easily take control of you.
How do you manage the dilemmas of staying late?

Mean Mom
I had the meanest mother in the whole world. While other kids ate
candy for breakfast, I had to have cereal, eggs or toast. When others had cokes and candy for lunch, I had to eat a sandwich. As you can guess, my supper was different than the other kids' also. But at least, I wasn't alone in my sufferings. My sister and two
brothers had the same mean mother as I did.My mother insisted upon knowing where we were at all times. You'd think we were on a chain gang. She had to know who our friends were and where we were going. She insisted if we said we'd be gone an hour, that we be gone one hour or less--not one hour and one minute. I am nearly ashamed to admit it, but she actually struck us. Not once, but each time we had a mind of our own and did as we pleased. That poor belt was used more on our seats than it was to hold up Daddy's pants. Can you imagine someone actually hitting a child just because he disobeyed? Now you can begin to see how mean she really was.We had to wear clean clothes and take a bath. The other kids always wore their clothes for days. We reached the height of insults because she made our clothes herself, just to save money. Why, oh why, did we have to have a mother who made us feel different from our friends? The worst is yet to come. We had to be in bed by nine each night
and up at eight the next morning. We couldn't sleep till noon like our friends. So while they slept-my mother actually had the nerve to break the child-labor law. She made us work. We had to wash dishes, make beds, learn to cook and all sorts of cruel things. I believe she laid awake at night thinking up mean things to do to us.She always insisted upon us telling the truth, the whole truth and
nothing but the truth, even if it killed us- and it nearly did.By the time we were teen-agers, she was much wiser, and our life became even more unbearable. None of this tooting the horn of a car for us to come running. She embarrassed us to no end by making our dates and friends come to the door to get us. If I spent the night with a girlfriend, can you imagine she checked on me to see if I were really there. I never had the chance to elope to Mexico. That is if I'd had a boyfriend to elope with. I forgot to mention, while my friends were dating at the mature age of 12 and 13, my old fashioned mother refused to let me date until the age of 15 and 16. Fifteen, that is, if you dated only to go to a school function. And that was maybe twice a year.Through the years, things didn't improve a bit. We could not lie
in bed, "sick" like our friends did, and miss school. If our friends
had a toe ache, a hang nail or serious ailment, they could stay home from school. Our marks in school had to be up to par. Our friends' report cards had beautiful colors on them, black for passing, red for failing. My mother being as different as she was, would settle for nothing less than ugly black marks. As the years rolled by, first one and then the other of us was put
to shame. We were graduated from high school. With our mother behind us, talking, hitting and demanding respect, none of us was allowed the pleasure of being a drop-out.My mother was a complete failure as a mother. Out of four
children, a couple of us attained some higher education. None of us have ever been arrested, divorced or beaten his mate. Each of my brothers served his time in the service of this country. And whom do we have to blame for the terrible way we turned out? You're right, our mean mother. Look at the things we missed. We never got to march in a protest parade, nor to take part in a riot, burn draft cards, and a million and one other things that our friends did.She forced us to grow up into God-fearing, educated, honest adults. Using this as a background, I am trying to raise my three
children. I stand a little taller and I am filled with pride when my
children call me mean.Because, you see, I thank God,
He gave me the meanest mother in the whole world.

Getting sick and working again
After so long not taking any leave, I've decided to take a break from work. 2 days seems to be a lifetime considering the schedule I have from day to day. We decided to drive down and spend some time in JB and to visit Zabir and Zaffar had a good time playing together but at times were sulking between each other. How fast they grow up. On Sunday I was hyped up to go back to KL and enjoy some rest time but end up falling sick with a bad tonsil, fever, body and headache. I braved the journey back to KL and only stopped to go to the toilet and buy wifey baby her favourite ais krim ban/bun which looked delicious but decided not to have any because of the bad sore throat. Once we've arrived in KL, I've decided to go straight to the doctor and after so many years, I got my first injection on my butt cheeks. Whenever baby use to tell me that injection for fever is a better option, I never believed her but it did cure me for a few hours. I got my appetite back and felt much better but obviously the fever came back towards late evening.
I decided to run some errands on Monday morning after sending baby and Zaffar to Tumbletots and bought some cuppies at the new mall in Ara Damansara, CITTA Mall. Baby loves the chocolove orange and royal vanilla for me. Ending the day, I've decided to rest for another day and took another day off on Tuesday and spent the morning at Tumbletots to only realize Zaffar hardly listens to his teacher...hehe. I guess born a leader not a follower.
Finally I'm back in the office today, walked my rounds and just realized a lot was surprised they didn't see me for some time because I use to bug them about work all the time. Now I'm waiting to have something presented to me and I'll be rushing back back straight after...can't wait to be home. I'm still aiming to be a lecturer so I can do things that I love....

Apple: Steve Jobs Dies
Just recently my wife told me that a friend of ours lost their car at her office compound. That brought to a discussion surrounding how we as humans chase for money and wealth and to lose something is so easy. This also leads to the story of this generation's legend and icon, a true revolutionary man that changed many lifes, inspired many minds and hearts - Steve Jobs.
I have to admit that before Steve Jobs stepped down as CEO, I hardly knew anything about this man. When I saw an article about him stepping down, I started to intensively google about this man. Just like Bill Gates, he is a drop out that later succeeded to do something that he loves. He built his first computer in his parents garage and later went through ups and downs striving to make such a big impact to all of us to his inventions. Sharing some article that inspired me:

Time is Gold
For the past few months, I've been very occupied to steer the mega
transformation that I'm currently heading. I'm fortunate to get the right
support by the right people in the office and also support from home by my
dearest baby. Time really flies and a lot has been happening and remained
unrecorded here. Zaffar is at Tumble Tots or now called IOP Canopy Learning
with baby and I'm in the office since early in the morning kicking off the UAT.
I was in the office during the weekend to ensure the team is all ready by
today.
I've received a few calls and emails for the past week with some very
interesting job offers but I guess I'm not the same person before and I wish to
complete first what I'm doing now but when the time comes, money comes first.
Wanting to put my children in private school is not an option any more but my
target in life.
We managed to attend all the function that we've been invited to
nowadays. Baby have been very interested to attend all the functions. We had
another ante natal checkup last Saturday and the scan was great, we decided to
bring Zaffar along so that he can take a glimpse of his baby sister. Yes, it's
now confirmed, the baby is gonna be a baby girl. Thanks God because we have
bought bunch of baby girl clothes. Haha. We managed to also get a copy of the
3D ultrasound pic.
Back to work now...
